The Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected quarterback Jameis Winston number one overall in the 2015 NFL draft on Thursday night after playing at Florida State and winning the Heisman trophy and a national title.
Winston was the presumptive number one pick coming into the draft and after he was selected, the Tennessee Titans took quarterback Marcus Mariota from Oregon. Winston has had controversy off the field and great success on it, as he has been accused of sexual assault while attending Florida State. Winston won the Heisman as a freshman and led his team to the national title and an undefeated record.
Mariota went to the Titans after some intense speculation about whether the number two pick would be traded and the team said they will not be moving the quarterback. The number three pick was the Jacksonville Jaguars and they selected Dante Fowler out of Florida. The fourth pick was the Oakland Raiders, who selected Amari Cooper from Alabama.
The Redskins had the fifth overall pick and selected Brandon Scherff from Iowa ahead of the Jets, who took Leonard Williams from USC. The Chicago Bears selected Kevin White, while the Falcons took Vic Beasley ahead of the Giants, who took Ereck Flowers. The Rams rounded out the top 10 with Todd Gurley.
