Jameis Winston was the first overall pick in the NFL draft on Thursday night and he has already signed his contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which puts him in line to open rookie workouts with the team and this comes as the Bucs are set to take on the Tennessee Titans and Marcus Mariota in Week 1 of the 2015 season.
According to ESPN.com, G.M. Jason Licht said Friday that the Buccaneers have already signed Winston and the team released a photo of the quarterback signing his contract. First round draft picks are not the negotiations they once were, as the new CBA has the salaries and contracts in line, unlike when Sam Bradford signed his mammoth contract.
The Buccaneers selected Winston number one overall over Marcus Mariota and he has now signed a $25 million contract over four years. According to ESPN, the contract has a club option for 2019 and Winston has a signing bonus of $16.7 million. Winston now can participate in all offseason programs for the Buccaneers and that could put him on track to start in Week 1 of the season.
The Buccaneers play against the Tennessee Titans in Week 1 and that could be a matchup between Winston and Marcus Mariota to start the 2015 season. Winston already had a bit of an incident with his posting of a crab leg photo on social media, but it was later deleted. Winston will be under the microscope and he now has a new team in the Buccaneers.
