Jul 15, 2015 11:22 AM EDT

Manchester City has acquired Raheem Sterling from Liverpool after numerous rumors all summer about Sterling's potential transfer and now he is moving on from the Reds and is a club record signing for Man City heading into the 2015-16 English Premier League season.

Manchester City was mentioned early on as the potential favorite for Sterling if he left Liverpool and the club has announced the record deal this week. According to BBC Sport, Sterling is moving on a £49 million deal and he is now the most expensive English player of all-time with the transfer. Sterling and Liverpool could not find common ground on a contract, as Sterling reportedly turned down a new deal with the Reds for six figures per week.

Liverpool took a while before completing the deal with Man City and now Sterling is on to another team after previously coming to the Reds from QPR. Sterling established himself as one of the best young players in England and now at 20 he is one of the stars for Manchester City. Sterling reportedly will fly to Australia to meet with his teammates after making the deal official. The club also announced that Sterling will wear number seven with the team.

Manchester City comes in after losing out in the Premier League to Chelsea this season after winning the EPL title the previous year.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini said through the team website: "Raheem Sterling is one of the best attacking players in world football, and I am very much looking forward to him joining our squad out in Australia later this week."
