The San Francisco Giants play Game 6 against the St. Louis Cardinals after being able to win in shutout fashion on Friday night.
The Giants will have Ryan Vogelsong on the mound. He pitched and won Game 2 in a must win situation for San Francisco. He went seven innings in that game allowing just one run, four hits, two walks and had five strikeouts.
Without that victory, the Giants would have been sitting in their own homes watching the Cardinals play against the Detroit Tigers.
It was the first time a Giants pitcher had gone past the sixth inning and it could not have come in a bigger game.
The Cardinals will have their veteran Chris Carpenter on the mound. They hope he will bring his veteran presence to this game and shut things down.
The Cardinals will need him to go more than four innings and he will need the Cardinals to actually play defense behind him as they made two big errors that plated three unearned runs.
Make mistakes and the Giants will make you pay as they did in Game 5 taking a 1-0 lead on a throwing error by starter Lance Lynn.
