The New York Giants defeated the Washington Redskins 27-23 after Eli Manning rallied the troops for his 24th career comeback drive as an NFL quarterback.
The victory came as the Giants trailed late in the game. From their own 23-yard line and 1:32 left to play, Manning hit his most trusted receiver, Victor Cruz for a 77-yard scoring play.
It was about a 20-yard completion, but Cruz was behind the Redskins' secondary and ran it in for the game winner.
Cruz finished the game with 131 yards receiving and a touchdown. Manning went for 337 yards, a touchdown, but had two interceptions.
His second interception proved costly as the Redskins scored three points off the turnover. It came after the Giants had recovered a fumble by Robert Griffin III.
Manning could have killed the Redskins chances of coming back, but the Giants used poor judgment with their play call and tried a short pass to the left where Rob Jackson picked up the interception.
The field goald by the Redskins made it a 16-20 game. The Giants could not hold on to the ball in their next possession and the Redskins made them pay with a 30-yard touchdown connection from Robert Griffin III to Santana Moss.
The Redskins had a 23-20 lead, but Manning did not need much time for the comeback. Hitting Cruz for the big bomb.
The Giants put the game away on a Moss fumble as the Redskins tried making a run. The Redskins looked more like the Eagles, turning the ball over four times and it ultimately cost them the win.
The Gians will travel to Dallas to play the Cowboys. The Redskins go to Pittsburgh to face the Steelers.
