The Philadelphia Eagles are coming into the 2015 season with high expectations and the team may keep Tim Tebow and Kenjon Barner on the roster and this comes as Chip Kelly could look at a Matt Barkley trade, while Sam Bradford has been impressive in the preseason as a starter.
The Eagles have some roster moves to make even after making the first wave of cuts, as the team has to decide on the third QB between Matt Barkley and Tim Tebow. Barkley has been solid during the preseason, but Tebow has the chance to make the roster based on his running and other skills that he brings to the table. Kelly likes versatility of Tebow and while Barkley is more of a conventional backup, the team could consider keeping Tebow instead.
Barkley has reportedly been on the trade block this summer and according to ESPN's Dianna Marie Russini, he remains there heading into the fourth preseason game. Kelly drafted Barkley and could consider keeping him, but the team likely will not hold four QBs and that means either Barkley or Tebow will end up going. Mark Sanchez is locked in as the backup and while there once was some competition with Bradford, it is not a competition anymore and Bradford is going to start Week 1.
Bradford has been impressive in training camp and in the preseason game against the Packers he ended up making all 10 of his throws and put up 121 yards and three touchdowns. According to CSN Philly, Bradford has played just four series in the preseason so far, but all of those series have ended with touchdowns for the Eagles. While it's just the preseason, it's promising that Bradford has looked good, as many have questioned the trade by Chip Kelly this offseason with Bradford coming off of two ACL surgeries.
Kenjon Barner could be in line to get a roster spot, as the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Kelly has said that the running back is making a "huge case" for a permanent spot. Barner comes into the final preseason game after being impressive on special teams, bringing back two punt returns for touchdowns for the Eagles. Barner has also been in the mix in the running game and he could end up making the roster if he contributes on special teams.
Bradford has not turned over the ball yet in the preseason and he has gone 13-of-15 for 156 yards in his time and that could be all he does for the rest of the summer until the season starts. Bradford was not expected to get too much time in the preseason anyway, but the Eagles have to be pleased with how he has looked. Bradford last played in an NFL regular season game in 2013 and he was off to the best start of his career with 14 touchdowns and four picks in seven games before injuring his ACL.
