Tottenham vs Wigan: Preview, Expected Lineups, Team News, Injuries and Predictions

Tottenham Hotspur will look to put behind their disappointing League Cup defeat to Norwich on Wednesday and carry on their good run in the English Premier League when they face an unpredictable Wigan Athletic at White Hart Lane in the English Premier League on Saturday.

Spurs were far from their best, even if they might not have deserved to lose, against Norwich, and were a little lucky to take all three points against Southampton last weekend.

However, Tottenham are slowly but surely starting to gel under Andre Vilas-Boas, with the likes of Gareth Bale, Clint Dempsey and Jermain Defoe hitting form at the right time.

Spurs will again look to their talisman Bale for inspiration, with the Welsh winger looking like he is back to his best after scoring in his last two games. If Bale decides to take the game into his own hands, Wigan might be in for a long afternoon in North London.

Villas-Boas, though, is not taking Wigan for granted, knowing the unpredictable nature of the English Premier League. "They are a team who are extremely well organised, they certainly play in a different style than the general pattern of the Premier League," the Tottenham manager told the club's official website.

"Sometimes they don't achieve the results at the beginning of the season, but when they step up a gear they can put you in a difficult situation.

"It's not going to be an easy game. We're aware of what they can do, and the way that they turned events around for themselves last season is the best example you can give to our players to illustrate that.

"We just had some amazing results in the Capital One Cup. This is the Premier League, so we have to be ready for the unexpected."

Wigan were also knocked out of the League Cup in midweek, losing to Bradford on penalties after the match ended goalless. They will be boosted by a confident Franco Di Santo, who earned his first call-up to the Argentina national team for their friendly against Saudi Arabia later this month.

Martinez's side were a little wasteful against Bradford, and the astute manager will harp on the importance of making the most of your chances particularly against the bigger English Premier League sides. The Latics, who lie in 15th with eight points from nine games, however, will look to build on the impressive 2-1 win over West Ham last weekend.

Spurs will have Emmanuel Adebayor available after the Togo international overcame a stomach bug, while Jake Livermore will be assessed before the game. Mousa Dembele, however, has been ruled out, while Brad Friedel is expected to return to the starting lineup, after Hugo Lloris was given a run out against Norwich.

"We are waiting for information on Jake Livermore, hopefully he'll feel better from the knock that he got against Norwich," Villas-Boas said. "Mousa will have further information on his injury today, so he will be out of the game.

"Ade has made a good return -- he trained today -- so he will be available for selection. (Kyle) Naughton and (Ryan) Mason are both back.

"So it's positives and negatives for sure, but we have 25 players who want to do well."

Spurs are fourth, five points behind leaders Chelsea, knowing a win with results going their way can take them right up there with the league leaders.

Expected lineups: Tottenham: Friedel, Walker, Caulker, Gallas, Vertonghen, Sandro, Huddlestone, Lennon, Dempsey, Bale, Defoe.

Wigan: Al Habsi, Ramis, Caldwell, Figueroa, Boyce, McCarthy, McArthur, Beausejour, Di Santo, Maloney, Kone.

Prediction: 2-1 to Wigan
