Arsenal Transfer News: Toure Keen on Gunners Move; Wenger Believes Last Summer's Signings Have Proved to be Worthwhile

Monaco striking sensation Ibrahima Toure admitted to being interested in a move to the English Premier League with Arsenal his preferred option.

The 26-year-old has been in stunning form, scoring 23 goals in his last 28 games, keeping up his form since earning a move to the cash-rich French side.

Toure, a Senegalese international, wants to make sure he finishes off his job of earning promotion for Monaco to Ligue 1, before trying his luck at one of the bigger leagues next season.

"Playing in the Premier League is my dream. That is my wish," Toure told L'Equipe. "Would I stay if I have offers from England next summer? It will depend on what the club officials decide. We will see.

"Monaco are a big club but my long-term wish is to play in England, for example at Arsenal."

Meanwhile, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has insisted he did not buy players in haste at the beginning of last season, due to the 8-2 defeat suffered at Old Trafford to Manchester United.

The Gunners completed an unprecedented five signings in the final two days of the transfer window, with Mikel Arteta, Per Mertesacker, Andre Santos, Yossi Benyoun and Park Ju-Young making their switch to the Emirates, with Benayoun coming on a season-long loan.

Wenger was criticized for buying in haste, but said he was happy with the results of those signings. "That's what people said, but if you look at who we bought we got Mertesacker," Wenger said. "We were criticised a lot for that, but today who would still criticise us for that?

"We bought Arteta, who was a very important player (last season) and still is a very important player for the team.

"We brought in Benayoun, who was very influential at the end of the season for us. We bought Santos and Park. So overall, we have not done badly.

"We bought five players in two days. Park didn't work, didn't get his chance, but he's doing very well at Celta Vigo."

While Santos still has his critics, there can be no arguments about the impact made by Arteta and Mertesacker, with the duo now an integral part of the Arsenal first team, and definite starters for Saturday's big game against United.
