The Philadelphia Eagles finally saw DeMarco Murray have a breakout game for the team after a slow start to the season and he helped power the Saints to a win over the Saints. Ryan Mathews had a solid game and is still a viable fantasy option, while Kiko Alonso may return after dealing with an injury earlier this year.
Murray previously had complained about how much he was carrying the ball this season and he made up for it with his best game of the year. According to ESPN.com, Murray had 27 touches in the game and that was his highest total for this season. Murray had 83 yards in the game and also made seven catches for 37 yards in the contest. Murray now has 130 yards on the ground and 18 catches for 113 yards and while that is a far cry from where he was last season, it looks like he is getting back on track.
Mathews comes in after rushing for 73 yards in the game and he added three catches for 23 yards and he currently leads the team in rushing. The Eagles started the season 0-2 and now they are 2-3 on the season after winning against the Saints. The team has dealt with some injuries early on to the offensive line along with Alonso and Mychal Kendricks and there is a chance that Alonso could return. Alonso previously was thought to be out for the season after the linebacker suffered a knee injury against the Cowboys, but that diagnosis has changed.
According to NFL.com, further testing showed that Alonso did not tear his ACL and there is a chance that he could come back this season. Ian Rapoport reports that Alonso met with Dr. James Andrews and had a scope of his knee and it revealed that he did not tear his ACL. The defense did not play great in the matchups with the Falcons and the Cowboys earlier in the season and getting Alonso back would be big. Fox Sports first reported that Alonso was dealing with "significant damage" in his knee. Mike Garafolo reported that Alonso could have his season "in jeopardy" after suffering the injury.
Alonso missed the 2014 season with a previous ACL injury and before that he had a great rookie season with the Bills. Alonso put up 87 solo tackles and 159 total tackles along with four interceptions and two fumble recoveries. Alonso was expected to be one of the anchors of the defense and if he is out for a while, the Eagles defense will take a major hit. Even if Alonso doesn't need surgery, he could be done for the season, as he previously injured his ACL and the Eagles may want to be cautious if he doesn't recover enough by the end of the season.
