London saw their own Andy Murray defeat Tomas Berdych in the first match of Men's Singles action at the ATP World Tour Finals. Murray defeated Berdych in three sets 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
As you can see, Murray did not win the first set. This match was a typical Murray match.
He started out slow and sloppy despite taking early leads in games.
In the first set he held numerous double-break points, but he allowed Berdych to get back into the games, eventually losing them following numerous unforced errors.
It was not until the second set when Murray tightened his game up and simply took control of the match early holding a three-game lead for most of the set.
Berdych's second and third set play was described as nervous as the player from Czech Republic was not as dominant as he was in the first set.
With the victory, Murray has one win in his pocket as the Round Robin part of the tournament continues. Berdych will have two more matches to go and still controls his destiny.
For Murray, it is a step closer to the knockout semifinal round of the ATP World Tour.
Still to play today is Novak Djokovic, the No. 1 ranked player in Men's Singles and he will face off against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Their match is later in the day at 2:45 p.m. ET/8:45 p.m. GMT.
Both of these players are in the same bracket as Murray and Berdych.
