England and France played an international friendly on Tuesday night at Wembley Stadium and the match started with a tribute to victims of the recent Paris attacks. The match was held after questions about safety and both Prime Minister David Cameron and Prince William attended the friendly.
England won the match 2-0, but it was about more than soccer on Tuesday night, as the 70,000 fans at Wembley started things off with a moment of silence to honor the victims. Fans sang along with the French national anthem La Marseillaise and the players stood together to honor those who died in the attacks. Prince William laid down flowers for the victims and also sang along with the anthem.
The football was secondary for this night, but England ended up winning 2-0 after getting goals from Dele Alli and Wayne Rooney. Yohan Cabaye almost had a score for France and Alli got things started with the first goal of the match in his full England debut. Roy Hodgson said that the match would be like no other the team had played before and he praised the Football Association for having the match go on as planned.
Alli played a part on the Rooney goal with a move on the play before Raheem Sterling crossed to Rooney and that gave England the 2-0 lead. France national player Lassana Diarra lost a cousin in the attacks and manager Didier Deschamps said the team was "emotional" coming into the match. There was extra security for the match at Wembley Stadium and London mayor Boris Johnson also attended along with Prince William and David Cameron.
