In another London Derby, Spurs will be desperate to get back on course, but will know they face a difficult prospect in the Hammers, who have climbed to seventh in the league on the back of an impressive run.

"We are a third of the way through the season and we have produced a high level of performance so we have the confidence and belief to keep that going," West Ham manager Sam Allardyce said. "I have got to keep driving the players on and I have to strive to make the players even better.

"My aim is to ensure that the players continue to play well and improve. The squad was put together in the summer and a lot of new players came in so we will continue to grow as we get to know each other better."

West Ham will face a difficult run of fixtures over the next couple of weeks, and Allardyce knows his team will have to be at their absolute best to come out with a few points.

"We know we are in a very good position but this run of fixtures could cause us a few problems," he added. "I think we will play well and I do not think we will let ourselves down but we could play our best in the next four games and lose all four.

"If Tottenham, Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool are all at their best then it is going to be very difficult for us. They are all in good form at the moment so for us it is all about playing our best and hopefully that will allow us to get some points.

Matt Jarvis is expected to return to the squad for West Ham after missing the last game against Stoke, while Yossi Benayoun remains ruled out along with long-term absentees Rocardo Vaz Te and Jack Collison.

For Spurs, Moussa Dembele is expected to be on the bench, while Emmanuel Adebayor starts the first of his three-match suspension, after his red card against Arsenal.

Expected lineups: Tottenham: Lloris; Walker, Galas, Vertonghen, Naughton; Sandro, Huddlestone; Lennon, Dempsey, Bale; Defoe.

West Ham: Jaaskelainen; O'Brien, Reid, Tomkins, McCartney; Noble, Diame; Jarvis, Nolan, Maiga; Carroll.

Prediction: 3-1 to Tottenham
