New York Mets Trade Rumors: Mark Trumbo to N.Y. as Dickey Talks Intensify?

Dec 14, 2012 02:53 PM EST

Things are intensifying in New York as the Mets are getting a ton of offers for R.A. Dickey. One of the options the Mets could have, though it is very, very unlikely, is trading Dickey for the Los Angeles Angels' outfielder Mark Trumbo.

However bleak the chances are of landing this All-Star player, there is nothing impossible when money and prospects are added to the table.

The Angels have too many outfielders after acquiring Josh Hamilton from the free agent market yesterday. It is either Mark Trumbo, Peter Bourjos or Vernon Wells getting out of L.A. Mike Trout and Hamilton have their spots taken and five outfielders are way too many.

The Angels have an excess of outfielders and a need for pitching. They already have the offense set, now they need to bolster their rotation because things are not balanced for that club.

They have a batting lineup to die for, but not a lot of focus has gone into their starting rotation and if they don't make changes, they won't be going anywhere again in 2013 as my predictions read.

With Dickey, the Angels could get the 2012 N.L. Cy Young and a pitcher that has gone 200 or more innings in the past two seasons.

He is a veteran with a nasty knuckleball a lot of teams don't trust.

Trumbo would be ideal for the Mets. He can play the corner outfield positions and also play the corners of the infield. Best of all, he can provide David Wright with protection as he is lethal hitting 29 home runs and 32 home runs in 2011 and 2012 respectively.

Acquiring Trumbo would be the best situation and a bit of wishful thinking from behalf of Mets fans, but after the Josh Hamilton surprise, people should get ready to expect anything.
