New York Mets Rumors: Shaun Marcum and Chris Capuano Among Hurlers of Interest

Dec 21, 2012 04:31 PM EST

The New York Mets are now looking to acquire starting pitching and there is an extended list of guys they can acquire, either via trade or the free agent market.

The Mets are rumored to have been seeking help from former Mets Chris Capuano and Chris Young Aaron Harang and Shaun Marcum. One or two of these guys could be in royal blue pinstripes at the start of the 2013 season.

Capuano and Harang will most definitely be wearing new jerseys in 2013 following the acquisition of Zack Greinke, which has increased the Mets' interest in trading for them.

Marcum is attractive because he can eat innings. Last season, he only went a total of 124 innings and made 21 starts. In 2010 and 2011 Marcum pitched 195.1 and 200.2 innings respectively.

Marcum would be a good guy to throw in the middle of the rotation and he's younger than both Capuano and Harang, which makes him a little more attractive. Not to mention that Marcum has finished with a winning record in six consecutive seasons owning a 57-36 career record in the majors.

Capuano and Harang are both 34, but are still effective at the major league level winning at least 10 games each last season.

The Mets already know they can count on Matt Harvey, who went 3-5 in 10 starts last season, and Johan Santana should be back healthy to lead the staff.
