The incessant rumors of Bill Cowher's return to the NFL might finally rest after the Pittsburgh Steelers' former head coach announced his plan to eventually come back to the game.
Cowher, 55, was at a CBS event to promote Super Bowl XLVII. Here, he acceded to the possibility of a return despite many believing Cowher had lost his passion and love for the game as a coach.
"It would be a challenge, but I think that's probably why I would get back into it, because of the challenge," Cowher told Newsday.
Despite the changes in the NFL since his six-year hiatus, Cowher believes he can be an effective coach and adapt to whatever new regulations are in effect.
"I did it for 27 years. You don't just for things overnight. One thing about this job is it's been really good because it allows me to study the game and do features on the game. ... It's not like I'm out of it. I know hoe the game is changing."
Cowher has maintained in tune with the NFL as an analyst for the CBS Sunday football crew along guys like Shannon Sharpe, Boomer Esiason, Dan Marino and James Brown.
As you can see here, apparently, being behind the mic and on the field have their similarities and Cowher looks well on both ends.
There are plenty of teams still out there in need of a head coach and Cowher would be a huge improvement for all of them. A team like the Philadelphia Eagles looks to be a team many fans think Cowher could end up with. Others simply want Cowher back in Pittsburgh where he won a Super Bowl with the Steelers. How about the Chicago Bears? They have a heavy defense and plenty of skilled players on offense.
It hasn't been too long since Cowher retired from the game. With his expertise and knowledge about the game he could definitely triumph with the talent on both the Steelers and Eagles. It might take him a while to get used to the sidelines, but he is a veteran who's respected and knows how to when.
When he'll be back? We don't know yet, but for now all we know is he has plans on returning.
