The Australian Open's second round sets off Wednesday and Maria Sharapova (2) is hitting the court in attempt to advance to the third round of the grand slam tournament. The action is probably going to take place at around 5 p.m. EDT from the Hisense Arena.
Sharapova will hit the court following the termination of three tennis matches also taking place in the Hisense Arena. The first match features Nicolas Almagro of Spain who is ranked 10th in Men's Singles competitiong. Following the Spaniard, the next match features Na Li (6) of China in a Women's Singles match. Finally, before Sharapova hits the spotlight, Marcos Baghdatis will be on the court.
The action at Hisense Arena begins at 11 a.m. EDT/7 p.m. ET. However, as seen from the brief schedule presented above, Sharapova has a while to wait before she begins playing.
She is attempting to capture her second Austalian Open title. Sharapova first captured The Aussie when she was 21 back in 2008. Last season, she was the runner up after losing at the hands of Victoria Azarenka.
So far in the tournament, Sharapova shutout her first and only opponent, Olga Puchkova in the first round with a 6-0, 6-0 victory.
Her second round opponent, Doi, of Japan, also had a great first round victory after defeating Petra Martric in consecutive sets 6-3, 6-4. She comes into the tournament ranked 92 in Women's Singles.
