Murray is the freshest winner of a Men's Singles grand slam as he captured his first major at the U.S. Open in Queens. He was fresh off a gold medal performance in London where he won the gold medal in front of his hometown defeating Federer and leaving him without any hardware from the 2012 Olympics.
Federer still owned the spotlight and the No. 1 spot in Men's Singles, but then Novak Djokovic came and stole the show. Federer went from No. 1 to No. 2. Without the Spaniard, Rafael Nadal, around, Murray was boosted to the third spot in the rankings, a position left all for him.
Had Federer and Djokovic not been around, many analysts believe Murray would have been the top gun in tennis. He is the hope of many in Great Britain and they believe he can become the first to capture Wimbldon since the mid 1930's.
