The January transfer deadline day was not as exciting as one would have imagined with most of the big teams deciding to take a backseat, while Queens Park Rangers and Harry Redknapp yet again made all the news.
On a day that David Beckham signed for PSG until the rest of the season, QPR bought Chris Samba, Andros Townsend and Jermaine Jenas, with the Peter Odemwingie transfer falling through as the forward acted in bizarre circumstances.
Stoke beat out competition for several teams to the signing of goalkeeper Jack Butland from Birmingham, with the youngster immediately being loaned back to the Championship club, while U.S. international Brek Shea agreed a move to the Britannia.
Arsenal fixed their need for a left-back following the injury to Kieran Gibbs by agreeing a deal for Spain international Nacho Monreal.
Fulham bought AC Milan fullback Yrby Emmanuelson on loan, while Danny Graham went back to the north-east to sign for Sunderland from Swansea.
The big dealers of the day was predictably QPR, with Samba sealing a £12.5 million ($20 million) switch from Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala.
"This is an unbelievable signing," Redknapp told the club's official website.
"(Chairman) Tony Fernandes deserves a lot of credit for this one -- he has worked so hard on bringing him in.
"I was speaking with him a month ago and he asked me who I would want to sign if Ryan Nelsen left, he asked me to give him a couple of names.
"I said to him 'Well, these aren't possible to get but if you're asking me who I'd have, I'll give you a couple of players.' One of them was Chris Samba.
"The next thing I know he's telling me that he's working on bringing him in! It's amazing. Chris is just what we need. He's a monster. Great in the air, quick, a leader, strong, fantastic in both boxes, hard as nails.
"He's a proper center-half."
The towering former Blackburn defender was the first to arrive at Loftus Road and was closely followed by Spurs duo Jenas and Townsend, who joins on loan.
Odemwingie was the center of attention after the forward came to London without West Brom's consent, to apparently complete a move to QPR, but had to go back after the deal fell through, with QPR not letting the Nigerian enter the club's stadium.
