The Atlanta Braves are getting ready to start their season and their starting lineup is set for today's game against the Philadelphia Phillies. Check out the batting order as the Braves post.
Braves Starting Lineup vs. Phillies on Opening Day
1. Andrelton Simmons SS
2. Jason Heyward RF
3. Justin Upton LF
4. Freddie Freeman 1B
5. B.J. Upton CF
6. Dan Uggla 2B
7. Chris Johnson 3B
8. Gerald Laird C
9 Tim Hudson P
When Dan Uggla bats sixth and is set to slide down to the seventh spot once Brian McCann comes back from shoulder rehab. The addition of the Upton Brothers brings more power to the Braves lineup and with B.J. and Simmons the Braves have speed in the lineup. Though they will probably not use it as much, it's good knowing they can run when needed.
Heyward and Freeman will be expected to carry the load of the offense as they are the future of the the team and the foundation for the Braves to continue building.
Guys like Freeman, Heyward, Uggla and the Upton Brothers will be together for at least the next three years, which shouldn't serve opponents well as they are set to hit a lot of home runs in years to come.
Hudson gets the ball in what could be his last season with the Braves. The battle manager Fredi Gonzalez battled was either having Hudson or last year's ace, Kris Medlen, get the ball for the season opener. Hudson put together a great year and was rewarded with the start.
He will face the Phillies, who are healthy and hoping to compete again in the N.L. East. The Phillies will have their lefty ace, Cole Hamels take the hill and face Atlanta.
Game time is 7:10 p.m. ET. Check out our predictions for the Braves' upcoming season.
