A week or so ago, the Chennai Super Kings were sitting pretty at the top of the IPL 2013 points table with no team looking like being able to catch them. However, now MS Dhoni's men find themselves in a fight for top place, with Mumbai Indians jumping above them, following their stunning victory over the Sunrisers Hyderabad Monday.
CSK are level on points with MI, but have an inferior nett run rate, which has kept them in second place, with Rajasthan Royals also on 20 points from 14 matches.
The Delhi Daredevils will be CSK's opponents in their IPL 2013 match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. CSK will be looking for a big win against the beleaguered side to jump back up to the top of the table while also improving their run rate. The two points will also, most crucially, guarantee them a place in the playoffs.
Delhi Daredevils, though, will be desperate to salvage something from a woeful tournament, which has seen them languish in the bottom two for pretty much the entire season.
"This has not been a good season for us but we have three games left now and we will look to finish well and try to win all those games," Daredevils pacer Ashish Nehra said. "It's difficult to maintain consistency season after season in the IPL.
"Only Chennai Super Kings have been able to do that because they have had more or less the same team since the first season. We have a very good team this season but were held back with too many injuries.
"It has been a difficult season but in the T20 format you have to take it in your stride. We had many injuries up front this year and missed people like Kevin Pietersen and Jesse Ryder. Virender Sehwag came back from injury and so did Umesh Yadav, myself and Irfan Pathan.
"It was tough and we lost our first six games in a row. After that we won three. If we had won a couple of games early on, we would have stood a chance."
