NBA Draft Rumors: Cleveland Cavaliers, Orlando Magic, Charlotte Bobcats and Phoenix Suns Like Center Alex Len, Minnesota Timberwolves Could Trade Up For Pick

The NBA Draft is fast approaching and with the Miami Heat now down 2-1 in the playoffs against the San Antonio Spurs, other teams in the league can feel the pressure of finding the right players for their system and with that, Maryland center Alex Len is moving up the boards for many teams.

According to SB Nation and Pro Basketball Talk, many feel that Len is the best big man in the draft after playing at Maryland and some of the top teams like the Magic, Suns, Bobcats and others could be looking to add him to their roster. Some mock drafts have him going number four to the bobcats and if they did that it would be a smart move, as he is considered one of the safest picks in the draft. The Bobcats had another rough season, but they will be able to add a talented prospect if they decide not to trade the pick and it could end up being Len.

Len has good ball skills for his size at 7'1" and he also is stronger than most players at his position in college and that could bode well for him entering the NBA. Pro Basketball Talk says that Len has good hands at the rim and he has an offensive and defensive game, including good shot blocking skills as well as intuitive rebounding. The only knock for Len is that he had surgery on his ankle so he won't be doing workouts or playing in the Summer League, but that likely won't stop someone from drafting him when it all goes down.

Len has youth on his side as he is just 20-years-old and after averaging over 11 points and nearly 10 rebounds per game, he could end up as one of the best young centers in the league. He helped elevate a less than stellar Maryland team and he plays well against top competition, as he bested Kentucky's Nerlens Noel with 23 points and 12 rebounds when they played and he also added 19 points and nine rebounds when Maryland played Duke.

Len made it on the all-ACC defensive teams after another solid season and despite the foot injury, he could be one of the sleeper picks heading into next season. Len may need a full year to get back to normal from his injuries, but if a team is patient, he could end up being one of the more talented players in the draft past top names like Noel, Trey Burke and Otto Porter. While the draft appears weak at the top, a number of talented players have declared and it could be one of the deepest in a few years.
