The Women's Singles finals is here. It will be Sabine Lisicki versus Marion Bartoli. It's Germany versus France as both of these ladies will have a chance to capture their first grand slam title. If you can't watch the matchup, check out the live scoring updates brought to you by ESPN Courtcast.
Lisicki emerged in the fourth round as she faced Serena Williams, the defending Wimbledon champion. She went unmentioned in the tournament until she began threatening Williams' chances of winning back-to-back titles. Williams described her as a big server and the 10 aces from their match makes this a true statement. In her last match, Lisicki was trailing early. She was down a set and, right as Agnieszka Radwanska was gaining momentum to take a huge lead in the second set, Lisicki roared back, pushing the match to a third set. She battled through as neither player backed down and, ultimately, Lisicki bounced the No. 4 seed from the tournament.
Bartoli's final match before the final wasn't as complicated. She easily tamed a Kirsten Flipkens that had a relatively easy time at the tournament, playing three sets only once in her five Wimbledon matches. Bartoli also dispatched Sloane Stephens in the quarterfinals, defeating seeded players with ease.
Bartoli is the No. 17 seed coming into this matchup, while Lisicki is No. 23. Bartoli is the only one of the two with finals experience, having participated in the 2007 Wimbledon final against Venus Williams, where she finished as the runner-up. The furthest Lisicki has gone into a grand slam tournament was at 2011 Wimbledon, where she made it all the way to the semifinals. For some reason, Lisicki loves playing at Wimbledon and she has doned the All England Club as her home.
Will this hold true as Bartoli, who is 29, will go after her first title. Lisicki is still young and after this tournament, she will look to continue building her name and excelling in her performances outside of the Wimbledon tournament.
