According to ESPN, Lamar Odom was arrested at 4 a.m. ET as authorities suspected a DUI. Now, it seems as though the 2011 NBA Sixth Man of the Year is not only losing his career, but his life is swirling out of control.
Reports earlier this week were that Odom suffered from a drug problem. Much has been made of his troublesome childhood. He was born in Jamaica, Queens in New York and escaped from poverty. He was a big deal from the beginning of his NBA career as the Los Angeles Clippers drafted Odom fourth overall in the 1999 NBA Draft. Odom was productive early on, but he bounced around the league.
Odom went from the Clippers to the Miami Heat and then finally settled with the Los Angels Lakers, where he won two championships in 2009 and 2010. After winning the Sixth Man of the Year in 2011, Odom's career went straight to the bottom of the ocean. He played for the Dallas Mavericks and struggled. After averaging 14.6 points, 8.9 rebounds and a block per game in his first 12 seasons, he seemed to have lost it all with the Mavs. Odom averaged 6.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and less than half a block per game in Dallas.
Does Odom's troubles in the NBA have anything to do with his marriage to pop icon Khloe Kardashian? That would be a very harsh assumption, but the reallity is that Odom has not been the same player on the court since his marriage in 2011.
Some assume that Odom's career is now over. He played all 82 regular season games for the Los Angeles Clippers in 2013. The 33-year-old averaged four points and 5.9 rebounds this past season.
Will Odom be able to bounce back or will his career simply end in disarray?
