Serena Williams will take Centre Court on Saturday morning as she will play against Jelena Jankovic of Serbia at 9 a.m.
Williams is a favorite in the competitions as she is no stranger to Wimbledon, where the event will be taking place.
Earlier in the month, Williams captured her 5th Wimbledon title after defeating Agnieszka Radwanska in three sets.
For Serena Williams the 2012 olympics are special. Despite all her grand slam titles and individual accomplishments, the heavily decorated tennis player has never won gold in a singles event.
In 2008 she was eliminated in the quarterfinals by Elena Dementieva from Russia. Beijing was the only Olympic event she has participated in. She won 2008 doubles with her sister Venus after capturing gold in 2000, also in the doubles tournament.
It is too early to tell, but chances are that Serena will not compete in any other Olympic events after this one. In 2016 she would be 35, which is a little past her prime as tennis has been known to be a young person's game.
