Olympics 2012 Men's Volleyball Results: Australia Defeats Poland in Four Sets

The Australian team surprised the second seeded Polish team in their final match of Group A's preliminaries on Monday. Australian won in three sets 25-21, 25-22, 18-25, 25-22.

Austria was led by Thomas Edgar, who finished with 22 spikes, 8 digs and 4 kills. Aden Tutton finished with nine digs in the victory. 

In the first set, Poland got off to a 4-1 start. Australia rallied, winning three consecutive points to tie the match 4-4. The teams then exchanged points tying until Australia took command of the game with an 11-8 lead. 

Poland went on a 4-1 run, tying the match at 12. Australia eventually took control of the match going on a 10-5 run holding a five-point lead, 22-17. They did not lend Poland get too far before closing out the set 25-21. 

Despite the 25-22 score, Australia never trailedscore of the second set. They were just one set away from capturing the victory but Poland did not go down easily. 

The Polish took the third set and did a great job defending two and three-point leads. They down any Australian runs, but they could only do this in one set.

Australia rumbled back in the fourth set as both teams played well. The biggest lead any team had was 9-6 in favor of Poland early in the set. After the score was tied 18-18, Australia finished the set on a 7-4 run to capture the victory. 

Despite the loss, Poland, who is a favorite to capture at least Bronze, is still in second place of the Group A pool with three wins and two losses, totalling nine points.
