It's apparently not a mystery that Roger Clemens and Mindy McCready were close friends. How close they were in reality doesn't matter anymore because Clemens wants to remember and will mourn the loss of McCready after she passed away following her suicide at age 37.
According to reports, McCready died after shooting herself on the porch of her home. In the closing years of her life, McCready, who had a successful career as a country singer, was battling mental illness and drug abuse.
As for Clemens role in her life, things remain a bit blurry. Asked to make a statement on her death, Clemens said "It's sad news. I had heard over time that she was trying to get peace and direction in her life. The few times that I had met her and her manager/agent they were extremely nice."
Many question how close and often the two actually met and saw each other. Rumors have it that Clemens and McCready established a relationship when the country singer was 15 years old.
Then in 2008 the New York Daily News reported that the two had a 10-year affair that dated back to when McCready was 15 years old, but things didn't become sexual until she was 18.
According to those around Clemens, McCready was only a longtime friend and nothing beyond that.
As for McCready, she leaves behind two sons. Her boyfriend, David Wilson, had passed also after committing suicide last month.
Clemens continues to take part in baseball related activities as he's currently getting the Houston Astros ready for the upcoming baseball season. Spring Training kicked off as teams are in camp and will soon begin playing games. The Astros will be in the American League for the first time in the history of the franchise. Clemens is a special instructor for the Astros.
