Tim Tebow Rumors: San Diego Chargers, Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints Possible Backup Fits As Quarterback To Speak In Cincinnati

Apr 17, 2013 11:35 AM EDT

Tim Tebow is a hard worker and a very determined athlete, which is one reason why he showed up very early to the New York Jets offseason voluntary workout program despite the fact that the team has said they want to trade him and he is continuing to prepare as if he will be on the roster next season.

According to ESPN.com, Tebow was at the workout for the Jets over an hour early and the quarterback spoke to reporters and said that this offseason has been the best he has had in his career. The Jets have actively been trying to shop Tebow around the league and so far no takers have emerged, putting the team in a situation where they may have to release him after acquiring him last year for draft picks from the Broncos.

Tebow has been working out in Arizona, Texas as well as in Florida, where he has had sessions with former Heisman winners Chris Weinke and Vinny Testaverde while working on his mechanics and footwork as well as his throwing motion. Tebow had a rough season in New York last year and the Jets barely used him, as he gained just 102 yards on the ground and 39 through the air while being kept out of the end zone.

The Jets used him mainly as a punt protector and despite the fact that there will be a competition at quarterback this season, the coaching staff has kept Tebow out of it. The team has Mark Sanchez, Greg McElroy, Matt Simms and David Garrard and there is a chance they will take a quarterback in the first round, including names like Matt Barkley and Ryan Nassib.

Tebow is a man without a purpose on the Jets, but that could change if they release him. There are a number of places where he could fit and not be a distraction, including with the Patriots as well as the Chicago Bears or the New Orleans Saints, as both teams need backups and have established starters that aren't going anywhere soon. Tebow needs time to develop and while that is afforded to other young starters like Blaine Gabbert and Sanchez, Tebow has never been able to get that opportunity.

The quarterback will also continue his speaking engagements on Friday, as he will address people in Cincinnati at a "Audible Compassion" event at US Bank Arena on Friday for a nonprofit.
