Arsenal have opened negotiations with Fiorentina over a summer move for Stevan Jovetic, while Arsene Wenger is closing in on a move for German youngster Matthias Ginter from Freiburg.

The Gunners have been constantly linked with a move for Jovetic, with the Montenegro international also expressing his liking for the English Premier League, and in particular Arsenal.

Wenger, knowing the keen interest in Jovetic from the likes of Juventus, AC Milan and Manchester City, is keen to tie up a deal for the 23-year-old as soon as possible, according to the Daily Mirror.

Fiorentina are demanding a fee well in excess of £20 million ($31 million), which Arsenal are reportedly ready to offer.

Wenger has targeted a striker as a priority in the summer, with Olivier Giroud definitely needing some help.

While Jovetic might not be the free-scoring striker that Arsenal fans have been crying out for, there is more than enough talent in there for Wenger to work with to convert him to a player capable of scoring over 20 goals a season.

Italian Peppino Tirri also hinted that Jovetic was close to a move to Arsenal, following reports of the north London club beginning talks.

"I read the news this morning in the newspapers," Tirri told ilsussidiario.net. "In fact it is a deal that might have practical implications. Expect developments."

There have been several reports in the past few months, which have mentioned Arsenal have held talks with Fiorentina, and indeed agreed a move, as long as they qualify for the Champions League next season.

So, it remains to be seen how much truth is there in the latest round of reports; one thing is for sure though, there is a long way still to go before the Jovetic-to-Arsenal saga ends.

Meanwhile, the Gunners are also targeting 19-year-old defensive midfielder Ginter.

Reports in Germany have suggested Arsenal are extremely interested in a move, with Wenger reportedly asking Freiburg to name their price for the teenager who has impressed quite a bit in the Bundesliga this season, according to the Metro.

Ginter is expected to cost Arsenal around £6 million ($9 million), which should not be too much of a problem for Wenger as he looks to bolster his defensive midfield ranks.

Arsenal have also been linked with moves for Victor Wanyama, Etienne Capoue, the Bender brothers - Sven and Lars - Sebastian Rode, and Maxime Gonalons in the defensive midfield position.
