Chicago Bears Rumors: Tim Tebow Released Jets Option Out Despite Marc Trestman Connection, Quarterback Could Fit As Backup With Browns or Ravens?

Tim Tebow is now released from the New York Jets and after all the dust settles he will be able to sign wherever he can and despite the fact that the Chicago Bears could be a fit with new head coach Mark Trestman, the team is not interested in bringing in the quarterback.

According to the Chicago Times, even though the team did not draft a quarterback to sit as a backup behind Jay Cutler during the NFL draft this weekend, the team is comfortable with Josh McCown and second-year player Matt Blanchard behind Cutler rather than Tebow. The team is also bringing in other options for rookie minicamp, leaving Tebow with another team to cross off of his list.

The Jets wasted $4.1 million on Tebow and he played in only seven percent of the snaps last season while gaining 102 yards on the ground and 39 through the air on eight passes. The Jets took Geno Smith in the second round and appear ready to give him a chance against Mark Sanchez, while the Tebow experiment was a huge failure and shows the dysfunction of the NY Jets as a franchise, as no one had any legitimate reasoning why he was traded for, used, not used and not effective, leaving no one accountable and few answers for fans.

Tebow had a connection in Chicago with his old quarterback coach in Mark Cavanaugh and with Trestman, who he worked with before the 2010 draft, but the team likely will not bring him in. He defeated the Bears while with the Broncos as the starter in 2011 and helped lead the team to the playoffs after starting 1-4, but no one is willing to give him a chance. He sits with career stats of 2,422 yards, 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions.
