Tiger Woods Unfazed By Sergio Garcia Drama and Racist Comments As Golfer Favorite To Win U.S. Open Championship On PGA Tour Schedule In June

Tiger Woods is coming off of another impressive victory this season at the Players Championship and though he didn't suffer another drop controversy like he did at the Masters, Woods had a bit of drama after possibly distracting Sergio Garcia while taking a shot and since then he hasn't sought out the Spaniard to clarify or apologize for what happened.

Woods was in Washington DC on Monday at Congressional Country Club for media activities in part for the AT&T National tournament that will go on later in June and sponsored by his foundation, but he couldn't escape questions about the tournament win and the spat with Garcia. Reporters asked Woods about the incident and when asked whether he spoke to Garcia about what happened, he simply replied "no" and said that whatever occurred at the Players is in the past.

The incident occurred in the third round on the second hole after Woods put his tee shot in the crowd and was figuring out what club to hit next, while Garcia was setting up his shot on the fairway. Garcia said he was distracted after Woods pulled a club too early and glared at him and later during a weather delay he told reporters that Woods needed to be more mindful of crowds and blamed him for his missed shot. Woods was able to save the hole and later said that he thought the marshals had told him Garcia hit, so he pulled the club.

Video showed that Tiger was partially right, as Garcia said Woods pulled the club while he was swinging, but the footage showed that he was still standing over the ball and could have pulled back. Later on Woods said he wasn't surprised that Garcia complained and after the tournament even after he won, the drama didn't stop for Woods, as some of the marshals said they never told Tiger that Garcia hit, saying that he actually lied. Later, another marshal came out and defended Tiger, saying that he did in fact tell him Garcia hit, although he may have been mistaken.

Woods said he put the issues behind him and is focused on the next major for the US Open, which would give him the 15th of his career and break his major drought. Woods also said that he was for the anchor ban proposal by golf and that anchoring shouldn't be part of golf, which he has stated for some time. One of the major issues is the fact that four of the past six majors have been won by players using anchors. Woods will next play at the Memorial Tournament before the US Open starting June 13th, which will be at Merion, where he never played before.
