The Oakland Raiders are feeling good about their prospects in 2013 after adding a number of free agents and trading for quarterback Matt Flynn, but one ESPN analyst doesn't agree, as Ron Jaworski ranked him as the worst starter in the NFL in his rankings.
According to ESPN.com, Jaworski is doing a list of the 32 starting quarterbacks in the NFL and Flynn came in at No. 32, last in the league. Last year, when Flynn signed with the Seahawks and was expecting to start over Russell Wilson, Jaworski ranked him 27th, but now he is down to the last spot. Flynn is 28-years-old and has little starting experience in the NFL, previously starting and winning a game for the Packers against the Lions in which he threw for nearly 500 yards and also had six touchdowns.
The Raiders aren't expecting Flynn to be Peyton Manning, but after brining in some new rookies on offense, the team is expecting to get better this season. Menelik Watson was drafted to the offensive line, while Nick Kasa, Latavius Murray and Brice Butler are looked at as the future on offense. The team also drafted Tyler Wilson and many think he will get a long look in training camp, but it is lliekly that head coach Dennis Allen will let Flynn win or lose the job on his own.
Terrelle Pryor is likely the odd man out here, but since the team used a supplemental pick on him, he is likely there to stay. The Raiders traded away last season's starter in Carson Palmer, who obviously will rank higher on the list than Flynn. The Raiders and general manager Reggie McKenzie are hopeful about the future and this year, as both the offense and defense should improve for the 4-12 team.
McKenzie added names like Charles Woodson, Tracy Porter, Mike Jenkins, Nick Roach and Kevin Burnett to the defense and that should help improve in a number of areas. If running back Darren McFadden can stay healthy, the Raiders have a chance to compete for a playoff spot.
