The New York Knicks are trying to put together a championship roster and with the end of the bench still needing to be filled out, the team has looked at a number of players this past week, including Lou Amundson and now the team will work out Gary Forbes as a possible option to sign.
According to SB Nation, the Knicks have worked out Amundson this week after signing Beno Udrih as a backup for Raymond Felton and the team could go after Forbes next. The team also has Jeremy Tyler and C.J. Leslie, but they won't have guaranteed contracts, and with up to 20 players coming to camp, the Knicks clearly want to have some options. The team has already invited some players and now Forbes is coming in next week for a workout, according to Hoops Hype.
Forbes played with the Denver Nuggets and Toronto Raptors previously and the last time he played in the NBA was during the 2011-12 season when he played in 48 games for the Raptors. Forbes averaged 6.6 points during that time and the season before he played in 63 games and started 11 for the Nuggets and averaged 5.2 points per game. Forbes has also played internationally and the 28-year-old could provide some solid depth on the bench and at his size he could be a good matchup for players as well.
Forbes also is working out for the Lakers so there is a chance that he could end up there as well, but the Knicks are looking to fill out their roster before camp. The team knows it has championship aspirations this season and after adding Metta World Peace, Pablo Prigioni and JR Smith, the team feels like it is ready to make a run. Carmelo Anthony needs all the help he can get and Forbes could end up being a nice addition.
