Tuesday, Aug. 20- Friday, Aug. 23
Three days before the grand slam begins, the qualifying tournament will be going on. It will be four days in length and the winners will eventually fill in the bracket of 128 participating in the final grand slam of the year.
For those who give the qualifiers no hope in the tournament, as Allan Jiang of Bleacher Report points out, there have been numerous of shocking stories in tennis grand slams. However, if Andy Murray and David Ferrer continue playing dominant tennis, there shouldn't be any surprises in Men's Singles. We've seen Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal get eliminated early at Wimbledon. In fact, Wimbledon was an anomaly as Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova and Victoria Azarenka were eliminated by the fourth round.
Murray comes into the tournament as the defending champion in Men's Singles. Meanwhile, Williams will defend her U.S. Open title in Women's Singles after winning her fourth last year.
The 2013 U.S. Open will take place from Aug. 26 until Sept. 9.
