U.S. Open 2013 Men's Singles Bracket: Djokovic and Murray Meet in Semifinals?

Aug 22, 2013 03:08 PM EDT

The U.S. Open 2013 bracket is all wrapped up. Though not all 128 participants have been included in the bracket, the top players are in. If Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray win their first five matches, they will face off a little earlier than expected.

Cue in Kevin Hart, "You see, the way the bracket is set up..." Djokovic and Murray are on the same side of the bracket. Instead of having a rematch of the 2012 U.S. Open championship, we would see a semifinals meeting of two of the top tennis players and recent grand slam champions. In the past year, Murray and Djokovic have faced off in the 2012 Australian Open semis, 2012 London Olympics semis, 2012 U.S. Open Finals, 2013 Australian Open Finals and 2013 Wimbledon Finals. These two are intense competitors, but they will not be seen facing off in the Finals of the 2013 U.S. Open.

Djokovic comes into the tournament as the No. 1 ranked player in Men's Singles. Murray comes into the tournament as No. 3. He was ranked third at Wimbledon, but after Rafael Nadal went on a tear before the final Open of the year, the Spaniard bumped up to No. 2.

Djokovic will go into the U.S. Open 2013 with the lead in his head-to-head matchup against Murray. Though Murray the last battle between the two at the All England Club, Djokovic has won 11 of their 19 meetings.

The U.S. Open is just a couple of days away. It takes off from Monday, Aug. 26 until Monday, Sept. 9.
