The murder case of Aaron Hernandez will be back in court this week for pretrial scheduling and other issues as the case moves closer to trial and as that is going on, his girlfriend and fiancé Shayanna Jenkins will be preparing to face her own chargers of perjury.
According to the Boston Herald, Jenkins will be arraigned sometime next week and her charges of perjury in the case could carry a very heavy sentence because it involves a murder investigation. Details have not been released about what Jenkins may have lied about and that could come out when she appears in court. Hernandez will be in Fall River court for a hearing on Wednesday and there is chance that information about Jenkins as well as associates Carlos Ortiz and Ernest Wallace could also come out.
The murder of Odin Lloyd occurred in June and Hernandez was arrested for the crime a week later and on that same day he was released by the Patriots. He has been held in jail ever since and in late September charges came down on Jenkins for perjury, which her lawyers have called overreaching and ridiculous. The case involving Hernandez has a number of moving parts and stems from a dispute that he and Lloyd had at a club before the murder according to prosecutors.
Hernandez is being held without bail and is facing life in prison for the chargers and depending on what happens, he could face further charges for guns as well as a connection to a separate double murder. Police looked into Jenkins after they believed she may have hidden the murder weapon, but after searching a storage unit in her name, nothing came up. Hernandez has been held in solitary to protect him from other inmates and his lawyers have been arguing for a full gag order to help avoid tainting the jury pool in the case.
The Hernandez case shocked the Patriots and the NFL and now Jenkins is involved in things as well and she could face jail time depending on what happens in court. Jenkins and Hernandez's cousin Tanya Singleton were hit with charges, with the cousin getting pegged with conspiracy to commit accessory after the fact, as she may have helped Ernest Wallace get away after he returned from the murder.
