Aaron Hernandez had his day in court last week for a pretrial hearing in the murder case of Odin Lloyd and now his finance Shayanna Jenkins will get her chance to appear, as she is in court for an arraignment regarding a perjury charge after she was accused of lying to a grand jury investigating the murder.
According to the Associated Press, Jenkins will be in Fall River Superior Court on Tuesday to face her one charge of perjury in the case against Hernandez and she will be arraigned and she is expected to plead not guilty. The indictment brought in Jenkins on perjury charges after it was alleged that she lied during her testimony to the grand jury in the case and it could have implications in the overall case.
A report from the Sun Chronicle in Attleboro says that Jenkins will be in court on Tuesday and that she made false statements under oath to the grand jury. She is being represented by a high profile attorney and she will be in court Tuesday to answer the charges. Hernandez was arrested for the murder of Odin Lloyd a week after the body was found dead near his home in Attleboro and police looked at Jenkins after they believe they saw her on video surveillance taking out a "rigid" object from the home the day after the murder that could have been a gun safe or lock box.
Reports said that police looked into Jenkins and called a search warrant for a storage unit in her name because they felt she may have disposed of the murder weapon. Jenkins could be facing serious charges in the case since it is a murder trial and the charge of perjury could put her away for an extended period of time due to the gravity of her fiancé's crimes, which includes allegedly shooting the victim five times with a gun, although that gun has yet to be found.
Police searched a storage unit in her name in Bristol, but they did not find the weapon. Hernandez and Jenkins have been together since high school and the 24-year-old will be in court to answer to the charges and many wonder whether her family or her sister Shaneah will be there, as she reportedly dated Lloyd before he was killed. Shaneah has stayed out the public eye, as has the Jenkins family and that is presumably who is taking care of the baby Avielle Janelle that Hernandez had with Jenkins.
Hernandez is currently facing life in prison for the charges in his case and things are moving slowly to a trial and the next step will be another pretrial hearing and that will revolve around the motion asking the judge to recuse herself by the prosecution. Lawyers said that there is tension from a previous case and they have asked the judge to recuse, while the defense has said they fight that motion.
