There is a championship to be played in Boston and of course, that means "Star Spangled Banner" has to be sung before the games begin. As the Red Sox host the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 1of the 2013 World Series, fans will enjoy a performance before the main show. Who will it be? Will they choke? Find out who will sing the national anthem in Game 1 of the World Series.
She, that's right it's a female, is an American singer-songwriter, record producer and on her off days she can rap and act as well. After 1993, she took the hip hop and R&B world by storm. She is a nine-time Grammy Award winner, 16-time Billboard Music Winner and the list goes on and on. Ironically, she hails from the Bronx, New York. No it is not J.Lo, Mary J. Blige.
Come on, you guys remember this song. She was featured in Method Man's "You're All I Need to Get By," back when hip hop was really and the streets of New York still looked gritty.
Blige will be on the field prior to the beginning of Game 1 and then, the festivities will begin.
The Red Sox and Cardinals will hook up for their second World Series in 10 years. The two battled in 2004, but it was the Red Sox who walked out of the old Busch Stadium victorious. Game 1 was an offensive performance by both sides. That game saw the Red Sox and Cardinals combine for 20 runs, 24 hits and five errors, four of which the Red Sox committed.
It was ultimately, a magical season for the Red Sox. After losing the first three games of the ALCS against the New York Yankees (here we go again mentioning NY), the Red Sox won eight consecutive games to capture their first title in 86 years. There was no curse all along or in actuality, the Red Sox repelled the curse after breaking through an 0-3 comeback.
We expect Blige to entertain in her rendition of the national anthem and we expect the Cardinals and Red Sox to matchup evenly in this 2013 World Series.
Ceremonies begin at 7:30 p.m. ET.
