Chelsea Transfer News: Florent Malouda Heads Clear-Out List as Di Matteo Plots More Signings

Roberto Di Matteo will instigate a Chelsea clear-out, with Florent Malouda heading the list of possible exits.

Malouda saw his move to Brazilian club Santos collapse last week, after wage demands scuppered any chances. Needing to prune the squad to 25 players, Di Matteo will put several players up for sale, with some of the youngsters expected to be sent out on loan.

With the impending arrival of Oscar, who reportedly completed a medical at Chelsea's training facility in London on Wednesday, and several more expected, Chelsea are desperate to let go of some of their fringe players. Malouda is deemed surplus to requirements, and according to The Sun, Di Matteo has told the French veteran he can leave.

"Florent is back with us now and I will have a talk with him this week," Di Matteo said before Chelsea's pre-season match against the Seattle Sounders, which the European champions won 4-2.

"We cannot name more than 25 players in the squad so we will have to make some decisions.

"Pre-season gives me a great opportunity to look at the new players and see how they develop.

"The final decision on who will go and who will stay will be made at the beginning of August."

Malouda has one year remaining on his contract and the 32-year-old was hoping to be released as a free agent. However, the Blues are looking for a fee in excess of £4 million, scaring off potential suitors. Other players expected to leave the club on a permanent basis include Yossi Benayoun and Gael Kakuta.

Benayoun spent the entire last season on loan at Arsenal, and with the Gunners choosing not to make the move permanent, it remains to be seen, where the Israeli international will end up playing next season.

Romelu Lukaku, who had a good outing in the friendly against Seattle, scoring two goals, is expected to go out on loan along with fellow Belgian Kevin de Bruyne and English youngster Josh McEachran.

Di Matteo also confirmed the club's interest in Victor Moses. Chelsea have had three bids rejected by Wigan, which are keen to hold on to the 21-year-old. "(It's) something that the clubs are discussing but at the moment he is a Wigan player," Di Matteo said.

"He had a good season last season, he is young and an interesting prospect."

Meanwhile, Marko Marin, who scored the winner against the Sounders, said he made the right choice by joining Chelsea, despite the club's embarrassment of riches in the playmaking department. "Tottenham were interested in me in January but once Chelsea made a bid it was not a choice for me," the German international told reporters in Seattle. "I decided straight away that I wanted to come to Chelsea.

"Last season I was injured a lot and couldn't play as much as I wanted. But it wasn't a surprise when Chelsea came in for me because over the years there were a lot of big clubs interested. It was the obvious step to come to England.

"I know I won't play every game for Chelsea but I know I can improve from being with so many quality players and I am keen to show the manager what I can do.

"I was at the Champions League final and naturally I was supporting Chelsea. It made me believe I'd made the right decision when they won the European Cup.

"I already have a house in London and my girlfriend will join me when she has finished her studies in Germany. I am settled in at Chelsea and ready to go."
