The Detroit Tigers host the San Francisco Giants in Game 3 of the World Series and things are not looking too bright for the American League squad.
Ryan Vogelsong, who has destroyed any team wearing red this postseason (Cincinnati, St. Louis) will take the hill in Game 3 for the Giants. We can talk about his stats and how great he has been, but more intimidating is his mindset for this game.
Weather looks to be a factor in Game 3. It will be cold as conditions for tonight's game are more favorable for a football matchup.
However, Vogelson is not bothered by any factors Mother Nature brings his way.
"It's the World Series. You can't be worried about how cold it is," he said. "I threw a game in Chicago last year where it was 34 degrees, and it was raining and sleeting, and I threw the ball pretty well that night."
How focused is he? "I don't suspect that cold weather is going to be much of an issue. If I am thinking about how cold it is, it means I'm not thinking about what I'm doing on the mound."
The start Vogelsong was referring to was his May 14 start in Chicago where he threw his first shutout of his career.
The Tigers are in trouble. They aren't hitting and their pitching, though Verlander aside has been great, does not look to have what it takes to stop the Giants.
They only gave up two runs in Game 2, but it has to be perfect in order to give this struggling lineup a chance to win.
Look for third base coach Gene Lamont to stop Prince Fielder at third base and avoid a play at the plate, if the chance arises.
Score Prediction: This one should be a pitchers' duel once again. I give the advantage to the Giants and they will win 4-2 on Saturday taking a 3-0 with Matt Cain pitching the next day.
