With one player coming in at Anfield, another one is headed for the exit door.
Liverpool confirmed the signing of Daniel Sturridge from Chelsea for a fee believed to be around £12 million ($19.5 million), while also adding that midfielder Joe Cole was in talks with West Ham over a move.
Sturridge completed his medical a week back, and was expected to sign as soon as the transfer window reopened in January.
With Luis Suarez the only real fit center forward in their lineup - although that seems to be enough on most occasions with the form shown by the Uruguayan -- Rodgers will be happy to add Sturridge to his ranks.
Sturridge, who will earn around £80,000 a week ($130,000), watched from the director's box as Liverpool eased to a 3-0 win over Sunderland, thanks to two goals from Luis Suarez, and Rodgers said this was going to be the 23-year-old's final chance of playing at a big club.
"He's a player that I have known since he was about 12 years of age," Rodgers said. "I've seen him come through the various clubs.
"He made his name as a youngster at Manchester City and was one of the top young strikers in European football.
"He made a move (to Chelsea)and it's difficult when you make a move as a young player.
"He's a goalscorer and the only spell he's really had that was at Bolton, but when he's played games, he's got goals.
"He gives us power, presence and mobility at the top of the field -- and I think the biggest thing is hunger.
"We're bringing in a player who knows he has to perform if he wants to be at one of the biggest clubs in the world. It's probably his last chance, and that was probably one of the reasons as well.
"He's got qualities, but if he wants to stay at the big level then this is probably his last chance. I've got every faith over his time here he'll prove a real hit and he gives us another attacking threat at the top end of the field."
Meanwhile, Cole could be on his way to West Ham, with reports suggesting he had a medical with the London club, where he began his career, on Wednesday.
Rodgers confirmed talks took place between the two clubs and the player, but was unaware of the developments. "I spoke to Joe twice earlier," he said. "He's in talks with West Ham and West Ham have obviously been in contact with the club.
"That was earlier on today (Wednesday) so I don't know how that materialised. We'll see if something happens on that."
