Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has given up hopes of goalkeeper David De Gea becoming the club's long-term number one, and is looking to bring in an established shot-stopper.
Ferguson is not convinced De Gea can stand up to the rigors of the English Premier League, and has asked the United hierarchy to help fund a move for another keeper, according to the Daily Mirror.
De Gea, while looking good at stopping shots, has struggled to adapt to the physical approach in the English game, with teams repeatedly putting the young goalkeeper under pressure in corners and crosses into the box, and more often than not succeeding in forcing a mistake.
While there have been improvements shown by De Gea this season, Ferguson reportedly does not want to take a chance, with second-choice goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard also failing to take his chance with both hands.
Ferguson is looking to sign a goalkeeper who will still be eligible to play in the Champions League this season, and has zoned in on Stoke City's Asmir Begovic, with Pepe Reina of Liverpool also a possibility.
De Gea has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, with the Spanish giants looking for a long-term replacement for Iker Casillas.
While those reports might have some substance, it is unlikely Ferguson will look to make such big changes to his lineup midway through the season, although the Scot has been known to take bold decisions in the past.
Meanwhile, United's on-loan forward Angelo Henriquez said he is looking to make a big impact at Wigan, after impressing on his debut for the club in the FA Cup third round tie against Bournemouth.
"I'm looking forward to my time here and hopefully I can be good for the team like Tom Cleverley was when he came here on loan," Henriquez said after the 1-1 draw.
"My job is to score goals for the team and hopefully I can give Wigan fans some good memories while I'm here.
"I'm hoping to get first-team appearances in the Premier League and coming to Wigan will be a very good way to do that, particularly with the style that the gaffer has got the team playing."
Henriquez joined Manchester United in the summer from Universidad de Chile.
