Saban NFL-Bound? No! 'Bama Coach Refuses to Go Pro Again

Jan 09, 2013 11:37 AM EST

Nick Saban made it clear that he will not be returning to the NFL. He is fresh off another BCS National Championship and the pros are far removed from the Alabama Crimson Tide head coach's thoughts.

Seriously, people have to stop asking the same questions over and over again. Why leave something when it's going so well?

Saban is to NCAA Football what the New York Yankees were to baseball from 1996-2000, the New England Patriots to football from 2001-2004, the Chicago Bulls to basketball in the 90's, a dominant champion and proven winner. Saban and the Crimson Tide are a franchise.

He already had a taste in the NFL and it wasn't the most flavorful for the back-to-back BCS winner. In two NFL seasons coaching the Miami Dolphins, Saban coached 32 games and though he had some success in his first season, 2005, finishing 9-7, 2006 treated him poorly after posting a 6-10 record.

Of course, the question remains, if Saban continues to dominate the NCAA, will he ever turn to the NFL? Greats eventually get bored of winning, look at Michael Jordan.

However, Saban rejects any rumors or ideas of coaching anywhere except for Alabama, "How many times do you think I've been asked to put it to rest?" Saban said. "And I've put it to rest, and you continue to ask it. So I'm going to say it today, that -- you know, I think somewhere along the line you've got to choose. You learn a lot from the experiences of what you've done in the past."

Sounds like Saban is pretty comfortable in college ball. We'll have to wait and see if he can win again. If he does, you can probably expect the questions about the NFL to resurface.

Currently, the Chicago Bears, Pittsburgh Steelers and Philadelphia Eagles are in need of a coach, but Saban will remain with his NCAA Champions for the time being.
